Popular Boy Baby Names in New Mexico

Joshua was at the top of the 2006 list with 174 baby boys receiving this name.  The name first appeared as number 8 in 1980 and moved to number 3 in 1990.  The second and third most popular names, Isaiah and Gabriel, did not appear in either the 1990 or 1980 list. Daniel, Jacob and Michael completed the top five for 2006.

• Only five of the 2006, ten most popular names, Joshua, Isaiah, Daniel, Michael and Joseph, were also among the top ten names in 1990. 
• Jacob, Joseph and Anthony showed the largest increases in numbers from 1990 to 2006.

• A few of the names that dropped out of the top 20 in 2006 were Justin, James, Robert, Ryan, John, Kyle and William.  
• Jose reappeared in 2006 from the 1980 list.
