Popular Girl Baby Names in New Mexico

Isabella was the most popular name selected for baby girls in 2006.  It was selected 127 times followed by Emily (114), Alyssa (113), Mia (106) and Madison (198) to complete the list of the top five names for baby girls.  These five names accounted for only 3.8% of all girls’ names

• Only three of the twenty most popular names in 2006, Ashley, Elizabeth and Samantha, were also among the top 20 most popular names in 1990. Only one name, Elizabeth, appeared in the top 20 for both 1980 and 2006. 
• Girls’ names continued to be diverse and unusual in 2006.  For example, the name Nevaeh appeared in the top 10 list and is “heaven” spelled backwards. 
• The following names appeared in both the 1980 and 1990 lists but disappeared from the 2006 list: Amanda, Amber, Christina, Jennifer, Jessica, Kimberly, Nicole, Rebecca, Sarah and Stephanie.
